The challenges are expanding exponentially and our resources to meet them are diminishing just as fast. Lumin seeks to provide our kids’ frontline support teams with evidence-based, research-driven approaches to help young people where they need it the most: reclaiming control, experiencing inter-being, and building resiliency. In supporting Siouxland, our goal is to address core healthcare and education issues our community members face by fostering resiliency and promoting sustainable living and learning.
Interested in your students paying closer attention? Perplexed by children’s inability to self-calm and exhibit self-control? Curious how you can foster a community of care and respect within your classroom spaces?
Many studies find that young people benefit from learning mindfulness. Some of the biggest gains are witnessed in terms of improved cognitive outcomes, social-emotional skills, and well-being. These benefits can be the impetus to an individual creating new, healthier neural pathways that can lead to long-term improvements both in school and in life. Some of the clearest benefits of a regular mindfulness practice for young people are that it can positively impact their attention and focus, emotional regulation, empathy & compassion, as well as attendance, behavior, and grades. The practice of mindfulness positively changes the brain and has been demonstrated through various evidence-based studies to reduce stress and anxiety (including traumatic and post-traumatic stress), to alleviate symptoms of depression, and to foster an overall felt-sense of health and well-being.
We provide a whole host of services depending on provider needs:
- PD sessions for teachers
- Mindfulness series for teachers
- Mindfulness series for kids with behavioral issues
- Mindfulness series for kids with special needs
- 6-hour continuing education offerings on Trauma-Informed Schools and Courageous Classrooms through the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children and Starr Global Learning Network.
We also regularly offer classes, workshops, private parties and camps for young people through our partnerships with school districts, non-profit organizations, and yoga studios. We also regularly partner with families to offer multi-generational services inside the home.
The yoga and mindfulness work we do with young people is focused on 4 Bs: brain, breath, body, and balance. In our classes with kids or in our on-site classroom or organization sessions we work on these four areas by practicing cross-body movement, teamwork, problem-solving, and breathing exercises through games, stories, activities and adventures. In doing so, we are helping the young people we work alongside to discover peace and to share their love and light with the rest of the world.
